Divest DU is more than just about fossil fuel divestment. Our campaign is about moving people and shifting the conversation about how we can combat climate change and the social, economic, and political injustices caused by the fossil fuel industry. Therefore, we cannot claim victory unless mass numbers of people act. Whether you’re a student, faculty member, DU alum, or Denver community member, there are many ways in which you can join Divest DU and the movement beyond signing our petition.

The best way for DU students to engage with Divest DU is to join us at our weekly General Team meetings in the J-Mac Classroom from 6-7 on Wednesdays. This team is separate from the Core Team. The General Team’s goals are to:

  • Educate the larger campus about Divest DU and recent events surrounding divestment
  • Empower students to act in support of divestment
  • Create an inviting space for new members to learn
  • Provide feedback for the Core Team
  • Offer a starting point for students to climb into Core Team operations

To find out when the General Team is meeting next and to learn more, please contact us.

We invite all DU faculty to sign on to the Faculty Open Letter to Chancellor Chopp and the Board of Trustees calling on them to divest the University of Denver from fossil fuels. Please consider the Faculty Senate resolution on divestment when signing. This letter will be formally delivered to the Chancellor and the Board.

If you would like to empower your students by talking about fossil fuel divestment and the mission of Divest DU in class, please contact us for resources. Additionally, Divest DU Core Team members are available to lead class presentations and discussions.

As DU students, we applaud your willingness to engage in tough issues surrounding the future of our institution, community, and climate.

Divest DU is in the process of developing an Alumni Core Team to organize DU alumni into action. To learn more about how you can be a part of this team, please contact us.
